HSDPA is the acronym of High Speed Downlink Packet Access, that is a advanced technology that allows to widen the bandwidth up to a maximum speed of 14 Mbit/s.
In the history of the technologies and its acronyms, the HSDPA can be considered the last ring of a chain constituted from technology GSM (2G), GPRS (2,5G), EDGE (2,75G), UMTS (3G) and finally HSDPA (3,5G).
So the HSDPA is the “state of the art” in wireless connections and its speed in internet browsing is higher than the one through fixed connections DSL.
In 2007 all the Italian companies of mobile telephony provide a HSDPA net. Some carriers using this brand new technology, offer plans very competitive with the ones offered on the fixed net, with the limit that the subscription must be for at least for two years, with huge penalty fees if the contract is terminated earlier than due.
To the 2007 H3G with the HSDPA covers approximately 85% and TIM covers about the 94 of the Italian territory. TIM and H3G have implemented the speed of the HSDPA carrying it until to a maximum of 7.2Mbit/s.
Vodafone instead offers still a service to 3.6 Mbit/s, while the maximum speed for Wind is just 1.8 Mbit/s. |
